Business model development
A good idea is one thing, but successful implementation is a different story. We combine both. We provide support from new product development to successful market launch in the digital transformation of existing business models in mobility, such as automotive, transport, and so on; financial and insurance services; and Industry (B2B and B2C) in the following situations:
• Development of a digital business model before founding a new enterprise
• Development of a digital product for a product portfolio, such as telematics services
• Realignment of digital distribution during business model transition projects
We provide support using the ideal methods depending on your project and development stage. Our design thinking process involves working with you and possibly other experts towards developing suitable solutions, prototypes, or business project simulations for testing on the corresponding target groups. We review the value, risk and feasibility of a business idea, and convert it into a business and implementation model. You benefit from our experience in successfully launching our own startups (such as Mass up) on the market and our familiarity with the challenges in investment and implementation.
Every project runs more smoothly with all of the stakeholders on the same page regarding common goals from the get-go. This involves working out all of the major aspects, such as in a vision board workshop:

Investing in a product vision is a worthwhile endeavour, as it will allow you to prevent a variety of mistakes that could arise from taking a product from the idea phase straight into development.
Business process modelling
Successful business operations rely on a clear, firm understanding of existing structures and processes within the company, especially in developing these processes such as in transitioning legacy systems in digital transformation. Apart from that, we begin with a current business process analysis spanning systems and organisational processes. Business process modelling will show how processes can be designed more simply, uniformly and efficiently for your staff and customers.
We will work together with your employees on setting the scenes for a specific list of requirements (see Requirements engineering) and document the business processes for your implementation project, e.g. in an e-commerce strategy. Service design can provide a good starting point for business process modelling.
Service design involves looking at processes from a user rather than a business point of view, assessing new opportunities that arise from digital transformation, possibly inevitably. One example might by radically remodelling existing service and support processes or synchronising these processes with existing workflows in implementing telematics solutions. New digital touchpoints in customer acquisition and service could be an option, or may even be required, such as in digital self-service tools. Service design focuses on the needs of customers first before matching them up to corporate cost models and business processes for the simple reason that it’s the customer who decides on the success of a business model. This requires availability, simplicity, and rapid response times.
A multidisciplinary team will develop new solution approaches for review by early prototyping and other testing procedures involving target groups, and new services will be launched with the support of user feedback analysis and iterative optimisation. A good service design may also provide a basis for evaluating your business processes.
Nobody likes having a mountain of documentation to wade through, but there are times you just can’t do without it. We believe in as much documentation as necessary and as little as possible, which we will decide together with you at the beginning of the project as part of the overall project strategy. We know the challenges, advantages and disadvantages in both classically oriented process models and more flexible approaches.
We will gather and document functional and non-functional requirements together with your experts to keep all the project team members in the picture at all times as to the expectations from a digital product. The result will be a list of specifications as needs and priorities describing the functions that must be implemented – and how – at the end of the project, and the level of detail that the agreed strategy requires. We mostly work with agile development methodologies such as Scrum, and tools including JIRA, Confluence, and online documentation and prototyping.
Overall technical architecture plays a key role in our requirements engineering, as it describes how the specifications defined should integrate into a new or existing system environment. This keeps experts, developers and project stakeholders in the picture on the new or optimised system.
Many industries are in a state of flux, so it’s important to gauge what your business environment will look like in two or three years – where new business opportunities are, and where existing markets are in decline. We will provide you with an overview and work with you on finding out the digital trends that will matter to your company now or a few years down the road.
We will also look at the current state of the art in your industry, and how your competitors have been taking the digital route forward for their companies and customers.
We’ve also found that the most interesting ideas sometimes come from very different industrial specialisations facing similar challenges.
We focus on who’ll be using your digital products, websites and apps, and that means becoming familiar with your target groups – their needs, knowledge, and preferences – to develop the ideal strategy, design, content, and technology.
We will also listen to your internal stakeholders that play a major role in developing and operating your digital product: how your IT, product management, marketing, and editorial departments are currently working together, and how they’ll be working together in the future – and the new requirements that will arise from implementing a new digital product, e.g. in maintaining databases.
Surveys, interviews, focus groups, usability tests, benchmark analysis, and study assessments are some of the methods we use in determining the most important factors in a strategy with the right actions, the most straightforward project execution, and the most efficient operation.
User experience strategy
The aim of a user experience or UX strategy is to align user requirements with the objectives of the business model and trademark. We will use what we’ve previously learned about your company, brand, and target groups in this part of the project.
We will develop personas, model customer journeys, and story maps to convert your brand values, business goals, and KPIs into interactions and messages in content strategy – design strategy turns real-world brands into digital brands.
UX strategy helps everyone involved prioritise their activities during the project while ensuring a consistent brand image throughout your channels and making use of existing trends. However, UX strategy should never be seen as an end in itself.
A coherent content strategy ensures that each page and digital asset meets a clearly defined purpose. To this end, we will make sure that the right content appears in the right place for the right user for the right reasons towards achieving your strategic goals and fulfilling user expectations.
We use content inventories and audits while looking for gaps in existing and required content as well as message architectures to find the answers we need.
We will then work with you on developing an individual production plan, appoint the respective special experts, decision makers, and owners, and lay down a realistic plan of action ensuring content planning and preparation for long-term content governance.
We will work together with you on developing ideas to make your digital product extraordinary and successful – from general design to killer features to the guiding principles to keep the project design on track. We will then form a team with members from your company if required, and select an ideal method or workshop format – such as remote brainstorming if meeting in person is not an option, collaborative sketching, or brainwriting.
We will then get together to sort, assess, and develop on the ideas formed so far, and ideally put them into practice.
UX and UI design
Always with future users and their needs in mind, our team of information architects, UX and UI designers, and copywriters will prepare digital products to meet functional requirements while providing the usefulness, inspiration, and enjoyment to make a contribution to the success of your company.
We sort content into and onto pages and create sitemaps, wireframes, and interactive prototypes – we don’t use off-the-shelf design concepts, but concepts developed from the ground up to match your existing corporate design (as applicable) for application to page templates and components. Our developers are, of course, involved throughout the process to keep implementation smooth.
We also produce assets such as visuals, graphics, videos, and text depending on requirement.
Prototyping & Testing
Clickable prototypes serve more than one purpose. Prototypes contribute to internal coordination and ongoing documentation processes while providing a basis for user testing.
Unlike static files or Word documents, prototypes give a good impression as to the final user outcome of a project. Depending on the task and project status, a prototype might consist of linked wireframes or layout files to test how the final result will handle on different screen sizes while demonstrating animations in motion design.
We are staunch believers in early and frequent testing as it’s your users that will ultimately decide the success of your website, app, or application. Test scenarios can range from testing in the usability lab to remote testing; we’ll work with you on planning this part.
Styleguides & manuals
Design and text guidelines and rules keep a digital brand consistent in the long term; a style guide summarises everything needed in implementing and maintaining digital products from colour values and dimensions to visual layout to text and wording.
We have also developed various documentation formats for each member of the project to refer to in clarifying requirements and interactions, and where they are expected to apply.
Our experience ranges from static documentation in individual projects to dynamic online documentation (component libraries) in a complete digital ecosystem including code snippets for download.
We provide consultation services on design, implementation, and deployment of digital products, services, and processes, which first of all involves analysing the status quo. We will evaluate your existing software and system architectures towards clarifying the structure of your individual system components as well as their relationships and dependencies on one another and to external systems to give us an idea as to the maintainability, extensibility, and cost of ownership in your system.
We will also look at your existing infrastructure, focusing on data stream distribution, processing, and communication as applies to both hardware and software.
Once the requirements on existing software or the software that needs to be developed have been set, we will analyse, evaluate, and specify these conditions with respect to architectures, interfaces to other systems, languages and frameworks, hardware platforms and operation.
We will support your stakeholders in selecting the ideal desktop, smartphone or tablet, wearable, Web and/or TV platform for development, operation, and deployment at the beginning and during the course of the project.
If the ideal solution should lie in cloud computing – infrastructure as a service, software as a service, platform as a service – we will provide an ideal cloud strategy and secure the ideal providers and architectures; we are a consulting partner to Amazon Web Services and a business partner to IBM SoftLayer.
We provide transparent, competent, and cooperative IT project management at every stage up to delivery and operation, and we mainly work with agile methods such as Scrum and Kanban.
Technical design and documentation
Every customer and every project has its own unique demands on system and software architectures, and we will create custom concepts with target system descriptions to keep all of your stakeholders on the same wavelength.
We keep solutions and decisions transparent with continuous documentation throughout the project. A project glossary is an important part of the documentation as it helps keep everyone – that’s you, us, and any contractors involved – on the same page.
We document software architectures as well as databases and APIs developed during the project with the same attention to care and transparency towards smooth transfer of ownership and seamless transition to you or other contractors for ongoing maintenance.
Implementation and integration
This is where our developers breathe life into ideas, concepts, and designs.
We use AngularJS, React, and similar frameworks in single-page web apps, and CSS3 for perfect web animation integration.
Our expertise in mobile apps covers the full range of alternatives from native applications for iOS and Android including deployment in the corresponding app store to hybrid HTML applications to pure web applications for mobile browsers.
We develop shops using Magento 2.0 for integration into existing system environments complete with interfaces to third-party systems such as ERP, PIM, PSP (Payment Service Provider), and Carrier.
Our developers have experience and expertise in various content management systems such as Magnolia, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), and Typo3.
We use continuous integration, or CI, throughout the development process, regularly using testing, staging, and acceptance systems to demonstrate each development stage alongside a variety of automated testing tools on the source code. The resulting deliverables are automatically deployed to productive environments on live servers after successful testing.
Your digital product will still be in safe hands after launch with a corresponding service package tailored to your needs.
We will maintain the content in your website, application, or online shop.
Our application management provides support in updating and upgrading applications throughout the life cycle and beyond, including user support. We will also update the content on your website or in your online shop.
If you have purchased a cloud solution from us, we will, of course, provide the corresponding services such as monitoring, administration, and ongoing maintenance with patch management for your application as well as operating systems and services.
Our Service Operations ensure that our IT services are deployed effectively and efficiently using ticketing systems such as Jira as well as wikis such as Confluence.
We’ve set extremely high standards on our services, and develop test concepts and plans to make sure that these standards are kept in every phase of the project. We keep records of all of the tests we’ve conducted, whether exploratory or routine.
The frontend will be subjected to automated regression tests using NightwatchJS and similar frameworks.
We also provide agile testing methods with continuous monitoring by the sprint team in addition to classical methods with test case development and subsequent implementation, with all of the deliverables approved by Quality Assurance.
Your project is in safe hands with our project and account managers, beginning with initial meetings and transparent offers written in a clear and accessible form. We provide sustainable support and consultation beyond successful project completion – we see ourselves as part of a team together with you, your own service providers, contractors, and other agencies. We would be pleased to take on the coordination of the whole team if required. We use either classical waterfall-oriented methods or agile methods such as Scrum depending on the type of project and your own process model. Regardless of role, we focus all of our activities on the success of our joint project with you.
We organise briefings, rebriefings and kickoff workshops involving external expert partners as required. We will work with you on defining deliverables and creating individual project and budget plans as well as schedules with constant upkeep and monitoring to keep you in the picture on current status at all times in terms of percentage of completion and current expenses at regular intervals. We keep continuous records and communication on open items while naturally also communicating with other service providers, contractors, and agencies.
